Reef

The biggest part of the range. Cushion Bounce, Cushion Cloud and Cushion Harmony for a soft moulded footbed; Santa Ana and Seas for something more classic; Seaside Prints and Escape Lux if you want colour. The Water Vista is a strap sandal rather than a toe post. £12 to £64.

Ipanema

Brazilian, and moulded in one piece — no glued joints to come unstuck, which is why they last so well around pools and salt water. The Anatomic Colours come in black, white, orange and light blue at £16, and the Anatomic Connect II in green tortoise at £19.95.

Rip Curl

Freedom Bloom open toe in bright peach, dark navy and natural, £24.99 to £29. The leather Freedom Bloom at £44 works with rather more than swimwear. Icons Of Surf Bloom from £9.

Which pair?

If you'll be walking any distance, go for a cushioned sole — the Reef Cushion range is built for exactly that. If they're mainly for the beach and the pool, Ipanema's one-piece moulding is the hard-wearing choice. And if you've never got on with a toe post, the Reef Water Vista is a strap sandal instead.
