Selecting the right windsurfing fin or skeg for your board can enhance your windsurfing experience. The size and design of a fin can control your board's speed, manoeuvring skills and steadiness. A bigger fin will give more stability but could also reduce your board's speed. Conversely, a smaller fin can make your board go faster and turn more aggressively but could make getting upwind a little more challenging.

Windsurfing boards come with a variety of windsurfing fin boxes. Tuttle boxes are often used by Starboard and often designed for slalom windsurfing skegs. The single-bolt power box is very common for old windsurfing boards. Please check carefully what type of windsurfing fin box you have before buying a windsurf skeg.

There are various Windsurf fins to choose from, such as wave fins geared towards aggressive riding and turning, slalom fins offering speed and stability, and freestyle fins meant to be agile in performing tricks and jumps. Wave fins are optimized for more extreme environments, while slalom fins are made to maintain speed in choppy waters.

Windsurfing fins are typically crafted with hard-wearing materials such as plastic, fibreglass, or carbon fibre. These materials are well-suited to handle the strain of being in the water.
